30 Years Journey of Adult Education in Ethiopia: With DVV International

DVV International began its work in Ethiopia in 1995, establishing a regional office in Addis Ababa. From 1995 to 2021, the organization contributed significantly to adult education and learning systems across the country. Although the Ethiopia office is now closed and operations have been relocated to Tanzania, the impact of the work completed during these years continues to resonate.

The collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MoE) and regional education bureaus played a key role in advancing the national Integrated Functional Adult Education (IFAE) programme. With initiatives such as the Adult Education System Building Approach (ALESBA), DVV International helped identify gaps and improve the implementation of IFAE at national, regional, and community levels.

While the Ethiopia office has concluded its mission, the models and frameworks developed in partnership with the Ethiopian government remain foundational for the continued development of adult education services in the country.
